ONE LP PORTRAITS: MUSICIANS: G - L: JOHN CLAYTON: ONE LP - OSCAR PETERSON: WE GET REQUESTS: John Clayton: Musician

“Well this album is not only a special album musically, artistically because it’s got Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson,Ed Thigpen on it. But I remember talking to Ray about this album and I said - ‘you know there’s one record you made with the Oscar Peterson Trio and the bass just sounds marvellous. You can hear every note when he’s walking and accompanying Oscar Peterson and you can hear every note that he plays when he plays his bass solo - crystal clear. And he looked at me and he said ‘We Get Requests’. And I said ‘I said ‘yes! that’s the one!.’So that’s the first part of the story, and the second part of the story of why this album is so special is that the bass that’s on the cover of that album is now my bass. This (standing with bass) used to belong to Ray Brown. After he passed, his widow, who's like a mother to me said {quote}If you’re interested in buying the bass, I’m holding it for you.{quote}So, it took a few years to get over his loss before I bought it but I eventually did. So this is a really really special album for me.”John Clayton: Hyatt Regency Hotel, Los Angeles 7th April 2014Oscar Peterson: We Get Requests released 1964John Clayton
