ONE LP PORTRAITS: MUSICIANS: A - B: ANNE KEELER: Anne Keeler: Musician

{quote}My love affair with jazz goes back to when I was a girl of eight, having had a huge crush on Nat King Cole, singing along and doing dance routines to his music. My parents had an exquisite sound system and record collection, and I truly believe that it was a gift from God that from their many records, Louis Armstrong’s ‘Satch Plays Fats’, Dave Brubeck’s ‘Time Out’, Leotyne Price and William Warfield’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ and Nat King Cole’s ‘Just One of Those Things (And More)’ came to the top! These are the records I “borrowed” from my parents, and eventually bought for myself as albums and then cd’s, making them the cornerstone of my lifelong musical library.I don’t remember the first time I heard Sarah Vaughan sing, but ‘Sarah  Vaughan: Duke Ellington Song Book Two’ was my first record by her, and my most-prized album to this day. I am certain that she will be my favorite singer for the rest of my life! I think this recording touches me so deeply because I first heard a voice and an approach to which I could relate-I had found MY voice through Sarah!!! I hear blues-based songs that are so beautifully sung and supported by superbly talented musicians. I appreciate her range and timbre and musical ideas, conveying deep emotions and a sense of humor, as well, and it is FUN to sing with her, and to allow her to take me along on her musical journeys! I have such a strong memory of being on my hands and knees, washing the floor in our New York apartment, while singing along to ‘Rocks in My Bed’, ‘I Ain’t Got Nothin’ But the Blues’ and ‘What Am I Here For’, proving that the right music can make any task enjoyable. And, it is always a personal  challenge to try to sing her wordless rendition of ‘Chelsea Bridge’ as seamlessly as she does - I haven’t succeeded yet! Sarah resonates in so many ways, and I am so very, very grateful that she made this marvelous album…my One LP.{quote}Anne Keeler: At home, Pacific Palisades CA, 3rd October 2016Sarah Vaughan - Duke Ellington: Song Book Two - released 1979
